As head writer for Creative Intelligence Media, Jan helps develop strategic messaging and content—from website content and marketing collateral to strategy statements and white papers.
Jan has more than 17 years’ experience as an independent writer, researcher, and editor, dividing her work between corporate communications and editorial projects. Over the years she has written extensively for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young’s management consulting group and Center for Business Innovation, Diversified Investment Advisors, and many other financial services organizations and consulting firms and their clients.
Jan's editorial work focuses on organizational management, strategy, investment management, and pension-related issues. A former columnist for Institutional Investor, she has contributed to a wide range of business publications, including Worth magazine and Advertising Age. She has edited several books, including Helping Employees Achieve Retirement Security, by Ted Benna, the “father” of the 401(k) plan. Since 2001, she has been editor of the bimonthly Balanced Scorecard Report, published jointly by the Palladium Group and Harvard Business Publishing. Jan has also been a consulting editor to Harvard Business School Publishing’s eLearning products group. Since 2004, Jan has written five major reports on outsourcing and offshoring for The Conference Board, the New York–based business research organization.
From 1996 through 2000, Jan served as director of Institutional Investor’s Fixed Income Forum, a private membership group for directors of fixed income management at leading U.S. investment management firms. After nearly doubling membership, she launched a European equivalent for the company in 2000, managing staff, sales, and clients from her Colorado office.
Previously, while a Montana resident, she wrote, edited, and produced marketing and advertising communications for many regional organizations, including D.A. Davidson & Co., Smith Barney Shearson, Montana Bank/Norwest (later acquired by Wells Fargo), Video Lottery Technologies, Montana State University, and Falcon Press.
Before relocating to the Rocky Mountains in 1990, Jan spent six years in the conference division at Institutional Investor, ultimately as director of the Institutional Investor Institute. She began her career as a writer at Contact Press Images, the New York–based international photojournalism agency. Jan holds a B.A. in comparative literature from Yale University and has studied at the Sorbonne and Columbia University.
